Cool N2 is located in Markham, Ontario just a 30 minute drive northeast of Toronto. Already a well established brand in Taiwan this is Cool N2’s first location in the Toronto area.
Liquid nitrogen ice cream is quite the scene to watch. It uses the same wholesome ingredients that you would use to make traditional ice cream except with the addition of liquid nitrogen which freezes the mixture and turns your bowl of simple ingredients into ice cream into less than one minute.

At a temperature of -196°C (-320°F) liquid nitrogen is cold. So cold in fact that unlike traditionally made ice cream ice crystals are less likely to form because it freezes the ingredients at such a rapid rate. The result is the fat, water, and sugar freeze into much smaller particles giving liquid nitrogen ice cream a much smoother, creamier, and fresher taste.

Each flavor available costs $5.99 CDN + tax for a medium size and $7.99 CDN for a large size. The exceptions being the Pop Ice which is $7.99 CDN + HST and original flavor which is $5.50 CDN + HST for medium size and $7.50 CDN + HST for a large size.

On the day that we arrive we try the following flavors:
- Milk Oreo – Milk Ice cream mixed with oreos and topped with an oreo. Seriously addictive. Unlike most cookies ‘n’ cream ice creams this one is a deep grey color, a testament to the amount of oreos that were used to make it. It definitely tastes like it too. One of the best cookies ‘n’ cream ice creams I’ve tried.
- Matcha Partner – Matcha Ice cream topped with red bean and condensed milk. Again, really flavorful and unlike most Matcha ice creams found in North America the matcha flavor is strong. There was no skimping on the matcha here.
- Whisky Chocolate – Chocolate ice cream mixed with whisky. This was rich tasting with a nice subtle whisky flavor. Definitely a more sophisticated adult take on chocolate ice cream.
- Chocolate Brownie– Chocolate ice cream topped with toasted marshmallows, brownie, and chocolate sauce. Only serious chocoholics only. Rich and fudgy and tasty down to the last bite. The perfectly toasted marshmallows were also a nice touch. If only camping looked this good.
- Fresh Lemon – Milk ice cream topped with lemon and lime zest and honey. This was the least favorite of the ones we tried. The flavor was too subtle. Stronger lemon flavor would make this a refreshing standout.
- Pop Ice – Milk Mango or Chocolate Banana with milk pudding. We try the mango version and it’s delicious. The mango pieces are naturally sweet and the mango pudding was smooth and creamy.
- Honey Crisps – Milk ice cream topped with cornflakes and honey. This was my favorite of all the flavors. The cornflakes gave a nice crunch texture and the honey added just the right amount of sweetness.
Before biting in, don’t forget to squeeze the included flavor shot onto your ice cream. It’s not only a fun touch but also a major flavor component to the entire mix.

In addition you have the option of adding the “Frozen Breath” addition to your ice cream, $1.50 CDN + tax. Frozen Breath includes having additional liquid nitrogen poured on top of your ice cream, which not only give you a pretty impressive smoke show, but also causes ice smoke to come out of your mouth and nose when you bite into your ice cream. It’s fun, and you’ll definitely want to have your camera ready for this one.

Besides ice cream, you can also get their Frozen Breath snack item, $3.75 CDN + tax. Cheetos are placed into a cup and then liquid nitrogen is poured on top causing the Cheetos to rise to the top of the cup and smoke to spill out as overflow. Like the ice cream, the Frozen Breath Cheetos causes smoke to come out of your mouth and nose with each bite. The Cheetos themselves have a much subtle flavor and are icy to the touch. They’re still as addictive as ever though, maybe even more so with the added smoke effect.

The experience at Cool N2 is definitely a unique one. While the smoke from the liquid nitrogen and the fact that it can produce ice cream in a minute flat is impressive at the core of it all it makes a delicious, creamy, and flavorful ice cream. Even without the smoke theatrics I would come back here just because the ice cream itself was high quality and the flavor options were unique. Plus, where else would I be able to get liquid nitrogen Cheetos?
