A Quick Getaway to Miami
Sometimes you just need to get the hell out, even if it’s just for a few days. That’s exactly how me and my friends felt and that’s just what we did. Less thinking, more doing and with Miami just being a short flight from Toronto it was the perfect way to disrupt the everyday and get inspired in a new environment. With sunshine all year round, brightly coloured buildings and walls, and tacos for daaaayyys Miami is a fun city that will give you a much needed temporary pause from all of life’s stresses. Below, you’ll find my Miami Travel Guide.

Where to Stay
The Plymouth Hotel
Located right in South Beach The Plymouth Hotel was a complete dream to stay at. Their rooms are modern and bright with bathrooms covered in white marble. Plus they have the most delicious oxtail hash at their restaurant!
Even though it is conveniently located right in the middle of all the action Miami has to offer this boutique style hotel is still quiet and very private which makes it the perfect oasis when you need a little downtime. Another nice bonus is that they are located just a short 5 min walk from the beach AND their pool is also 24 hours…the only hotel in Miami with a 24 hour pool in fact – SCORE!

Miami Travel Guide – What to Do (and Eat of Course…)
Dreamer Açai Juice and Matcha Bar
Probably the hottest, most instagrammed spot in Miami right now, the flamingo wallpaper is the perfect photo-op. Unfortunately my praises pretty much end there. My friends and I picked up some matchas, and not gonna lie they were gross. Perhaps their açai juice is better, but we were definitely disappointed in our matchas – especially since they even list matcha bar in their name!

Morelia Gourmet Paletas
Pick it, dip it, top it! Morelia Gourmet Paleta uses all natural ingredients to make their gourmet palettes in-house daily. There’s plenty of luxurious flavours to choose from like paletas filled with Nutella, dulce de leche, and condensed milk. There’s also plenty of non-dairy options as well and once you select your flavour you have a choice of dips and toppings for the perfect cool-down treat in the Miami heat.

Habitat at 1 Hotel South Beach
Habitat is the cute restaurant located on the bottom level of 1 Hotel South Beach. We initially wanted to check out their famous rooftop but unfortunately we visited on our last day and the rooftop is only available to the public after 7pm (guests of the hotel have access all day). It’s worth the visit here just for Habitat as the restaurant is super cute and serves the most delicious huevos rancheros.

1-800-Lucky
1-800-Lucky serves tayaki ice cream and not only are they the cutest little ice cream concoctions but they’re just as tasty as they look. My favourite was definitely the black sesame soft serve but they also offer matcha, and vanilla if you’re basic and boring.

Wynwood Walls
Wynwood Walls in Miami is famous for their street art. It’s basically like a giant outdoor art studio and the price is right….FREE. Some of the most acclaimed street artists have had works here over the years but the murals often change as my friends Joelle and Sabrina found out after searching for a specific pink art piece for hours only to learn later on that that particular work had been painted over and replaced. Regardless, you’re sure to find a cool piece there that catches your eye, or maybe one that matches your outfit like I did.

Caja Caliente
Caja Caliente serves Cuban tacos and is a family run business that originally started as a food truck. The tacos are fresh and creative and the only thing better than the food is the fun vibes with their outdoor brightly painted patio furniture.

Casa Florida
Casa Florida is a fun night out with friends for some drinks. With a bar that sits inside a shipping container, they serve craft cocktails made with local produce as well as bar snacks. Their lounge is also located inside of a converted 1965 GM bus, so you know this place just oozes with all the right kinda charm.
