Short and Sweet Bakeshop is located in Toronto’s Yonge & Eglinton neighborhood and is the second location for this sweet haven. With it’s clean white walls, and pretty in pink “Buttercream Dreams” neon sign it’s the place where the young and the young at heart can find solstice for all their sugar fantasies.

Ruining Diets Since 2009. The warning is emblazoned in pink as I lift up the pink logo sticker and find a what I would best describe as a powder sugar dusted cinnamon spice strudel. The pastry is perfectly flaky and the insides are spiced nicely. It would be nice to see slightly more filling but the flavors right and it’s easy to see why they’ve been de-railing diets for eight years now.

I’m treated to a selection of caramel butter tarts, a Nanaimo bar, and an apple caramel crumble pastry. Of the three, the caramel butter tart is my personal favorite. In fact, it’s the favorite of everything I sample here. The crust is flaky and buttery, and the butter tart filling has just the right sweetness and perfect consistency. Lovers of apple pie or apple crumble will want to try the apple caramel crumble pastry. Resembling a muffin it’s also filled with cream cheese frosting and a drizzle of caramel. The quintessential apple dessert but in a compact muffin form.

Of course, there’s also the cupcakes which is what they’re arguably most known for. Multiple flavors are available with a seasonal special which rotates monthly. What set these cupcakes apart from others for me is that each and every single one was filled with a complimentary filling. The S’mores was filled with marshmallow fluff, the chocolate chip cookie dough with a generous mound of cookie dough, and the lemon with a dollop of tangy lemon curd.

Then there’s their cookie sammies. Fresh baked cookies are sandwiched with a buttercream or a cream cheese frosting. I try out a triple chocolate cookie sammie filled with chocolate buttercream frosting. As if a chocolate cookie isn’t dangerously tempting enough on it’s own already.

Lastly there’s their dessert beverages.  Definitely a showstopper they’re piped high with whipped cream and drizzled with every topping imaginable. I try out the Carmelo which is drizzled with caramel sauce and lined with chocolate cookie crumble. It’s sweet, and definitely not for the sugar shy. It’s an indulgence in itself, a dessert and a beverage all in one.
