Rashers (Ossington Location) : Toronto, Canada

Rashers (Ossington Location) : Toronto, Canada

Name: Rashers
Address: 182 Ossington Ave, Toronto, ON M6J 2Z7, Canada
Website: Website
Phone: (647) 346-8230
Wifi: No
Tender: Debit, Credit, Cash
Neighbourhood: Ossington
Type: Sandwiches

The newly opened Rashers is located in the Ossington neighborhood and is the second location to the already hugely popular first location in Toronto’s east end of Leslieville.

Their newest location in the west-end is much larger than their original. There is ample booth seating, counter seating by the window, as well as additional free-standing counter space should you wish to stand while you indulge in the tastiest bacon in the city.

While there make sure you take note of the red artwork mural that lines the walls. It’s dotted with  all things bacon as well as popular Toronto cultural references, featuring everything from Drake and Rob Ford to the ever unending battle with raccoons.

While Rashers is known for their legendary Hogtown Sandwich with pemeal bacon and homemade ale mustard their offerings range far beyond  that.

The Apple & Maple Grilled Cheese (Maple glazed smoked strip bacon with 1 year aged cheddar & apple chutney on white bread), $9.50 CDN + tax is expertly grilled and the apples pair nicely with the aged cheddar and maple glazed bacon, lending itself to the perfect savory and sweet combination.

Then there is the Brie & Bacon Sandwich (Smoked strip bacon with melted brie & caramelized onions topped with a homemade garlic aioli on a toasted bun), $10 CDN + tax. The bacon, as always, is phenomenal here and the perfectly caramelized onions, brie, and garlic aioli complement it well without overpowering it. In fact, I like this sandwich better than their top selling Hogtown Sandwich.

I also try the Bacon Burger (Ground beef patty with bacon bits topped with classic smoked strip bacon, lettuce, tomato & homemade chipotle mayo on a toasted bun), $11 CDN + tax, and surprisingly it’s incredibly tasty, which I wasn’t expecting considering their specialty is bacon. The burger of course is still topped with bacon, but the actual burger patty itself is juicy and is mouthwatering good when dressed with their famous bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo. I’ve eaten far too much at this point but I can’t help but polish it off because it’s that good.

As sides, the offer curly fries and potato wedges, both $4 CDN + tax. Having always been a sucker for curly fries I choose to order them over the potato wedges. They arrive topped with bacon pieces, chipotle mayo, and scallions. The flavor is amazing and exactly as it should be, but I do think that the fries could be crisper. Still, they would make the perfect match to the burger (or any of their sandwiches for that matter).

Having been a fan of their original location in the east end for years now I was excited to see that I can now get my bacon fix no matter which side of the city I’m on. The larger space and ample seating also make this location a desirable choice, especially in the winter months when you want to enjoy your bacon sammies and curly fries indoors. More importantly the new location delivered the same quality that has made Rashers an eastside staple, and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the west-enders soon wonder how they ever had bacon before Rashers.
