How to Throw a Chic Picnic with Boursin

How to Throw a Chic Picnic with Boursin

Ahhhh picnics! A prime activity come summer they are the ultimate way to unwind on a sunny day.  Once you’ve found your prime spot on the beach or the greenest patch in the park you are set…except why not take it to the next level with little to no effort at all? In fact why not make this a casual chic picnic with even less work than your standard picnic. After all, being chic is about doing things simply, yet beautifully and effortlessly

What to Eat

Keep it simple. When you’re touting your outdoor feast around the last thing you want is anything unnecessary. Focus on what matters most and eliminating the unncessary is the best way to have an effortlessly chic picnic. That means minimizing the amount of items you need to carry around with you including plates, cutlery, and drink ware. Believe me nobody looks cute or chic carrying around heavy bags like a pack mule.

Charcuterie and Cheese

Charcuterie and cheese are the perfect picnic food. They are delicious, offer a variety of items to choose from, and can easily be eaten without cutlery or extra plates, bonus because a huge cleanup when the day is done is definitely the opposite of chic.

Fill your charcuterie board with a variety of meats like prosciutto wrapped cheese twists, spicy salami, salmon lox, and genoa.

The perfect cheese? Boursin in a selection of flavors like Garlic & Fine Herbs, Red Chili Pepper, Bouquet of Basil & Chives, Chalot & Chive, Cranberry and Pepper, and Cracked Black Pepper. Infused with various herbs and spices they add enough flavor to complement any charcuterie offering.  Plus Boursin is made with 100% Canadian milk, which I love as supporting local is always priority for me (not to mention it tastes amazing).

Finally, round out your board with a good selection of olives, cornichons, nuts & dried fruit, and mustards and preserves.

Dessert – Chic Picnic Style

Ice cream! Yes you can have your own home made ice cream at a picnic! I recently discovered this MEC Softshell Ice Cream Ball where all you need to do is add cream, sugar, vanilla, flavourings of choice (if any), ice, and rock salt inside the ball. Then roll for 20 minutes and magically have fresh handmade (or rolled) ice cream! No batteries or electricity required. Scoop your fresh made ice cream into small mason jars and top with fresh berries, a sprig of mint, or whatever your heart desires and enjoy while everyone else watches with mixed awe and envy.

What to Drink

Pass the bubbly! All things champagne and sparkly can turn any affair into a chic and sophisticated one. Plus the bubbly pairs perfectly with the wide variety of Boursin flavors. Keep it easy and fun by stocking up on single serving size bubbles and then using some twine wrap some playful and whimsical straws around each bottle so everyone has everything they need for the perfect sip. Offer up a variety of beverages like sparkling water, iced teas, and juices as well so everyone has a choice. The best part?  No extra cups or glasses required which means it keeps your load a lot lighter.

How to Store & Carry

As much as I love a classic basket weave picnic basket the fact of the matter is, is that it isn’t necessarily the most functional way to store and carry your feast. When the temperatures climb the scales that beautiful basket weave picnic basket will not keep your goodies stored well. And let’s be real, there is absolutely nothing chic about food poisoning and warm rosé.

Cue the cooler. Now hear me out, coolers have come a long way since they soccer mom days. These days there are some very sleek and aesthetically pleasing coolers that not look good but also keep your food and bubbly chilled to perfection. I like this mint green stunner, which also comes in white, to keep my picnic looking and tasting exactly like it’s supposed to.
